Renovation of Argentinian Antarctic base open for comment – Australian Antarctic Program (News 2023)

A proposed renovation of Argentina’s Petrel Base, on Dundee Island in Antarctica, is open for public remark.

Particulars of the proposed renovation are contained in a draft complete environmental analysis (CEE), offered to Australia in accordance with the Protocol on Environmental Safety to the Antarctic Treaty (Environmental Protocol).

Petrel Base opened in 1967 however has been used as a short lived summer time base since 1976, after a fireplace destroyed its important lodging constructing. Actions detailed within the CEE embrace renovation of the bottom and enhancements to energy and water provides.

Public remark is open till 14 April 2023.
