ISTANBUL — An explosion at a port in northwest Turkey on Monday injured at the least 12 folks, officers stated.

The blast at a grain depot on the port of Derince on the northern shore of the Gulf of Izmit despatched up plumes of thick smoke and mud.

An preliminary investigation confirmed the explosion was attributable to “wheat mud compression in the course of the switch of wheat from a ship to the silo,” stated Seddar Yavuz, governor of Kocaeli province.

The explosion on the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) website was nonetheless being investigated, he added.
