Established in 1954, Mawson Station is the oldest, constantly occupied Australian Antarctic station and Australia’s first station south of the Antarctic Circle.

In 2004, the Australian Heritage Council listed Mawson Station as a Commonwealth Heritage place for its distinctive demonstration of the evolution of constructing strategies in Antarctica, and insights into early station life.

The Australian Antarctic Division is creating a brand new heritage administration plan for Mawson station and invitations touch upon the draft administration plan from members of the general public, key stakeholders, group teams and Indigenous folks with an curiosity within the place (Regulation 10.03C, Atmosphere Safety and Biodiversity Conservation Laws 2000).

The Draft Mawson Station Heritage Administration Plan 2024 may be seen on-line and feedback submitted through the Division’s session hub.
