Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia wrote on Twitter that “arresting a presidential candidate on a manufactured foundation mustn’t occur in America.”
In Washington, Republicans continued to circle the wagons in protection of Mr. Trump.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California mentioned Mr. Bragg had “irreparably broken our nation in an try and intervene in our presidential election.”
“As he routinely frees violent criminals to terrorize the general public, he weaponized our sacred system of justice in opposition to President Donald Trump,” Mr. McCarthy wrote on Twitter. “The American individuals is not going to tolerate this injustice, and the Home of Representatives will maintain Alvin Bragg and his unprecedented abuse of energy to account.”
Consultant Elise Stefanik, a prime supporter of Mr. Trump and a member of the Home Republican management, known as for individuals to “peacefully manage,” a notable assertion after Mr. Trump urged his supporters to protest forward of an indictment. That decision prompted considerations about echoes of the assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, by a pro-Trump mob.
Mr. Trump didn’t reiterate his name for protests in his assertion on Thursday.
Consultant Jim Jordan of Ohio, the chairman of the Home Judiciary Committee, took the extraordinary step final week to contain Congress in an open investigation by sending a letter, together with two different Home Republican chairmen, demanding that Mr. Bragg present communications, paperwork and testimony about his investigation.
After the indictment was introduced, Mr. Jordan tweeted one phrase in response to the information: “Outrageous.”
