A Texas district lawyer mentioned Sunday that he has moved to dismiss a homicide cost in opposition to a lady who authorities allege carried out a “self-induced abortion.”

Starr County District Lawyer Gocha Allen Ramirez launched a press release saying that 26-year-old Lizelle Herrera “can not and shouldn’t be prosecuted for the allegation in opposition to her.”

County regulation enforcement arrested Herrera on Thursday and held her for 2 nights in jail after officers mentioned she “deliberately and knowingly trigger[d] the dying of a person by self-induced abortion.” She was launched on $500,000 bond on Saturday evening after an abortion rights advocacy fund posted her bail.

Ramirez mentioned the case stemmed from a report made to police by a neighborhood hospital in January. The arrest occurred amid an ongoing, aggressive assault on abortion rights in Texas and different states.

This can be a growing story. Test again for updates.
